Hobby

My hobby, or should I say my "special ability", is "Ball Finding" (not retrieve or fetch!). I have already found a lot of balls; all sizes, ... big, small, baseball, football, etc. I have so many balls, I can't even count them. You might want to ask me, "Are there really that many lost balls around?". Yes, but I don't know why... I usually find a lost ball in a bush where people can't reach. I guess that I have an extremely good sense of smell for balls. Well, let me tell you a story about a ball and me from my diary...


OO, XX, 1996 (Rain)
Although it had been raining all day, Master Maiko took me out for a walk to the park.

"Even though it's raining, its good for us because no one is here!" Master Maiko said, and then she let me go free.

I was so happy, running around.

Suddenly, I smelled the scent of a ball from the other side of the park river, so I jumped into the river and swam across to get it!! I swam about 25 feet and finally got to the other side. However, I couldn't land because the cliff along the river was too high, and it was very difficult to climb up. I tried to climb up again and again but my short legs didn't help me, and I struggled at the edge of the river.

Master Maiko was crying and screaming. "Atom! Come back!!"

I knew that my boss was worried about me but I still kept trying to climb up to get the ball. I didn't want to swim back without the ball because I didn't want to be a loser. I was trying and trying, but I couldn't climb up.

"What's wrong with me?" I thought.

Then, I realized.

"Oh, no! I forgot, I was wearing a raincoat!"

My raincoat sucked in a bunch of water, and it was getting heavier and heavier.

After I struggled for about 10 minutes, I looked up and found Master Maiko in front of my face. She ran around and came to help me. She held the tree by one hand, and grabbed me with her other hand. I was a little too heavy to be pulled up by her, but she finally saved me.

I felt clumsy by myself, but I triumphantly picked up the ball and showed it to her because I had a man's pride. All in one moment, my master had a surprised, happy, sad, and astonished face looking down at me.
